Meal #83: Lunch

This was the best duck I’ve ever had in my life. It was perfectly rare, but still had a great grilled flavor. It was succulent, juicy, salty, fatty, incredible! The salad was good too, as it had lettuce and potatoes from the garden! Who puts potatoes in the salad? But so so good. Thank you François!

I had no idea this dish was even coming. I ate my amazing grilled duck and salad and thought it was the end of the road, but no, François had more in store for us! She brought out this simple and awesome white bean dish along with more bread and more grilled duck! The beans were excellent, perfectly cooked with tomatoes and herbs. And the extra duck was as good as the first serving. This was just lunch!
Meal #80: Lunch

Amélie came over for lunch and brought with her this delicious ratatouille and crispy little fried kale patties. We had never had these little kale patties before, but they were great. The ratatouille was excellent, although it had no tomatoes as traditional ratatouille usually does. The vegetables were soft and sweet, and incredible.

For dessert we had this little traditional caneles. They are spongy and sweet with a little touch of burnt flavor that gave it a sort of caramel flavor. Excellent.
Meal #78: Lunch

Charity made food appear out of nothing. The ingredients were scarce, but she managed to find some pasta, some cheese, and some pre-made bechemel sauce. It wasn’t the greatest meal ever, but it wasn’t terrible, (better than that Italian place in Paris for sure). Creamy and cheesy, just the way macaroni and cheese should be.
Meal #76: Lunch

This was the plat du jour at the little brasserie where we stopped at the half-way point between Paris and Rodez. We had been in the car for so long in heavy trafic that I think anything would have tasted good. But this meal actually was good. Steak hash is ground steak, cooked like a burger. I got mine medium rare, and it was delicious. The Roquefort sauce never loses. The frites were nice and crispy and to my pleasant surprise, drizzled with honey! You can see it there drizzled on the plate. What a good idea!

This was Charity’s strange lunch that took her by surprise when it was placed in front of her.
Meal #74: Lunch

This was a simple sandwich for yet another quick lunch in Paris. The baguette was nice and chewy, but the rest of the sandwich was lacking. No sauce, no seasoning on the chicken, pretty bland overall.

This was Charity’s fromage and salad lunch.
Meal #73: Lunch

This was no joke, a hot dog on a baguette. They are everywhere in Paris. It definitely tastes better than our American hot dogs on a way-too-soft bun. This particular one wasn’t especially awesome, but it wasn’t terrible. It was too much for me, I couldn’t finish it. The bread was crispy from the extra time in the oven, and the cheese was nice and browned on the top. We sat outside and were immediately joined by a poor little pirate pigeon, (he only had one foot). He seemed very self-conscious of his missing foot when the other pigeons were near, he was sheepish and aggressive. I wanted to take him home and care for him, but Charity refused. Where ever you are little friend, keep on limpin’ and keep your head up, you’re doing just fine.

This was what Charity had for lunch today.
Meal #71: Lunch

We made these simple but delicious salami sandwiches for our picnic in the beautiful gardens of the Palais de Verseille. The bread was a nice baguette from the little corner bakery by Jessie’s apartment. Baked fresh daily, these baguettes are simply amazing. The salami, butter and emmental were nothing special, but on the baguette it made for a great sandwich. Not pictured, but also consumed were lots of salty green olives and a few bags of Lays Nature flavor potato chips. It was a nice little picnic in a beautiful garden.
Meal #65: Lunch

This was our first lunch in Paris. We popped into a small sandwich shop for a quick lunch. My sandwich was on nice bread that was chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside but sweeter than a baguette. The ham was nice, and I liked the sliced hard-boiled eggs. The vegetables were not the best, but overall, it was a decent sandwich for a quick lunch.

Meal #63: Lunch

This salad jumped right out of the menu at me. Who wouldn’t want to eat a mushroom and bacon salad? The salad was made up of a buttery lettuce somewhat like Boston, tomato wedges, cucumber slices and crunchy croutons with a creamy dressing. The salad itself was a good salad, but then they decided to make it an awesome salad so they topped it with a heaping pile of warm mushrooms and bacon. The bacon was awesome, like it always is when it’s actual bacon, from the belly. And the mushrooms were heavy and earthy. It was an incredible salad, one of the best salads I’ve ever had!

Charity’s first course was a shrimp croquette with salad. The croquette was hot and creamy on the inside, with a really crispy exterior, and very delicate flavors, which pared very nicely with the salad and simple vinaigrette.

I had no idea what to expect when I ordered Flemish stew. I was pleasantly surprised. The tender chunks of beef were in a really great silky ale and beef gravy. I would have appreciated some carrots, onions, and peas in the stew. The frites were crispy and salty. The apple compote was a nice sweet relief from the very salty stew and frites. Overall, a very strange lunch combination, however, very pleasing and I will definitely try to make this at home.
