Snack # 15

It was a hot one in Annecy, so we needed some ice cream! I had two scoops – honey-lavender and lemon! I loved it! I love floral flavors and the lavender and lemon perfectly complemented each other! Adam had peach and pistachio- Delish!

Meal #108: Lunch

We were on our way Annecy when we spotted this beautiful chateu. We decided to go of the beaten track and find the castle! Good thing we did – it was a restaurant! The setting was spectacular and the food couldn’t keep up 😦

We each started with the salad of the day which was fresh greens with duck prosciutto, foie gras, pine nuts and balsamic vinegarette – excellent! The foie gras was the best we’ve ever had – smooth, buttery, subtle minerals and salt. Awesome! Unfortunately, the entree didn’t stand up to the setting or the salad. It was a pan seared fish (not sure what kind – “zubelette”?), on a bed of finely diced vegetables and dried fruits (why?), and butter risotto. The risotto was totally bland – overly buttery (I know! I didn’t know that was possible!), lacking salt and pepper, and no contrast of flavors. The plate was, however, beautifully and simply presented.

Meal #105: Lunch

WOW! This is a good one! Maybe the best meal in France yet! We went to Chambery for the day and enjoyed all the amazing sites – Elephant fountain, world’s largest collection of Trompe-l’œil, and beautiful Roman pedestrian alleys.

We ate lunch at a lovely restaurant that was highly recommended by the Michelin Guide. It was sooo good! We started with the salad of the day which featured fresh greens, pine nuts, duck pastrami, and pan fried duck innards (heart maybe?) all dressed with an excellent balsamic vinaigrette. Then we had the Plat du Jour which was slow roasted pork tenderloin and creamy potatoes with bacon and onions…wow! Everything was so BIG and so GOOD! Then we had dessert a wonderful, sweet-tart apricot tart, and espresso of course:) AMAZING!

Meal #102: Lunch

Today we went back to the lovely city of Moutieres. We stopped at a nice restaurant in an adorable park. We had salad with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, Tagliatelle with Carbonara, black current and blueberry sorbet and espresso! Everything was awesome! I especially love the raw egg yolk on the pasta! It made the dish so silky and creamy- awesome!

Meal #100: Dinner

After such a long day, a heavy lunch, and TONS of cheese samples. We were not very hungry. We stopped at a flea market in a city on our way home from the Cheese festival. We bought a few things that will be very difficult to get home 🙂 We also shared a lemon crepe! It was perfect – tender and buttery with little crunchy bits of caramelized sugar on the outside, a sprinkle of sugar and a big squeeze of lemon on the inside! Yum!ImageImageImage
