After a great meal in Charlotte, we had to suffer through airline food. It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever had, but it wasn’t good either.
We had a light snack mix of pretzels and other cracker type things with a delicious German beer. An hour or so later, the kind flight attendants served dinner- chicken in a brown gravy with mashed potatoes and carrots, a salad, and a pleasantly crusty roll. The dessert was actually quite good. It was a rich chocolate cake with cream and a strawberry.
After leaving the airport, we enjoyed a lovely drive from Munich to our new home in Landsberg am Lech, about an hour’s drive. Surprisingly, Germany looks a lot like Illinois! We stopped by the local Aldi and picked up a few staples before heading to our new home. We love our new place! It’s clean and modern with a beautiful garden and two very friendly cats Franzy and Henry. (Pics coming soon)
We were both tired and hungry, so I threw together a quick second breakfast- toasted brown bread with tomatoes, herbed cheese (similar to Borsin), Gutsdammer cheese (similar to Swiss cheese), and a few slices of salami. Quick and tasty! We ate in the garden 🙂
And we’re off… we started this long journey in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina. We had a LONG layover, so we decided to venture out of the airport and into the city. Good call! We had lunch at an awesome restaurant called King’s Kitchen – a ministry serving the poor and recovering homeless and addicts. The entire restaurant is run by people in training to become professional chefs, bartenders, and servers. The food and service was impeccable!
We started with good old fashioned Southern sweet tea and pimento cheese served with fresh King’s Bakery sour dough bread… welcome to the SOUTH ya’ll! Next we had the “meat and three” of the day- pan fried chicken with Mac ‘n’ cheese, green beans, creamed corn, and perfect biscuits. Wow! The fried chicken was just like my grandma used to make- light and crispy! The Mac ‘n’ cheese was oh so cheesy. The creamed corn was fresh and sweet, and the green beans were stewed, rich and porky- just the way my mom likes them 🙂 We wanted to try one of their mile high pies, but we were too full! What a great start to an awesome summer!
We’ve had an awesome day! Beautiful country views, castles, Perth, St. Andrews for sunset over the North Sea, wow! Way to live it up on our last day in Europe!
We stopped for dinner at a lovely pub in Perth. I had the wild mushroom and tarragon soup with a delicious beet, arugula and goat cheese crostini salad. The salad was particularly wonderful. The combination of sweet and savory, crisp, smooth and creamy beets was so satisfying! Adam had the classic steak pie with mashed potatoes and carrots. We’re not in France anymore, but we’ve grown find if espresso after meals 🙂
Quick lunch on the go! A delicious Pret arugula and crayfish sandwich! No time to stop we have sightseeing to do!
