Dinner at home

We had dinner at home tonight- reminiscent of a meal I made in France last summer:) I sautéed onions and garlic then added red wine and lentils. I halved some sausages, sprinkled on some rosemary and baked it until the sausages were blistered and the lentils were bubbling and creamy. Served with a green salad it made a hearty, well balanced meal! We had Merci chocolates for dessert:)

Change of plans

We planned to head to Munich today and see some of the sites, but after sleeping in so late we decided to stay home and get some work done. We repurposed our picnic I prepared last night and munched all afternoon:) We took a trip to our nearest grocery store, Rewe, just a six minute walk from home. It was much more expensive than Aldi, so we just picked up some snack items we can’t get at Aldi for less. Let the snacking begin! 😉

Then a pretzel with sweet mustard.

Then some tasty cheese-balls

Finally some weird and delicious chocolates!

Nature’s bounty

It was cool and rainy this morning, so we decided to sleep until afternoon:) When we woke, the sun was shining and the currants were begging to be picked- still not sure if they’re actually ready, but they taste sooo yummy, like extra tart red raspberries! I made black current yogurt parfaits with blueberries, fresh-picked currants, and a sprinkling of muesli. Great way to start the day… Even though it’s 2pm 🙂

Evening stroll

We walked along the Lech to our local Biergarten, the Lechgarten! We thoroughly enjoyed our first German Biergarten experience! I had a Dunkel Radler (German summer shandy- lemon soda mixed with beer) and Adam had the “bier”. Both were excellent and the setting was perfect!

Proper Bavarian fare

After a long walk through Landsberg am Lech, we had worked up quite a hunger:) We stopped at a traditional Bavarian restaurant for a hearty dinner. I had the wies beer and Adam had a lager- both awesome!

For dinner we had grilled pork chops over spaetzle with steamed vegetables and a rich mushroom gravy. We also had pork wiener schnitzel with French fries and a fresh salad. Everything was delicious and filling. We especially liked the spaetzle with mushroom gravy- Yum!

Venturing out

We decided to save some cash and have a quick lunch at home before venturing out… Have I mentioned our beautiful garden?

Open-face herbed cream cheese and smoked salmon sandwiches on toasted brown bread with a green salad, cucumbers, and red bell peppers. Fuel for the walk into town 🙂

Busy bees

Another lazy, sun filled German morning. I was going to say “I could get used to this”, but the truth is I AM used to this. Work? Schmirk. (Sorry kiddos:)

I enjoyed a sweet, rose scented, hour long breakfast- first at the patio table, then lounging on the deck. Toasted brown bread with butter, salt, and Himbeer jam (red raspberry) with nectarine and blueberry fruit salad. The coffee was tasty, too. All to the soundtrack of nature: birds singing, fountain bubbling, and bees humming!
