Late night dinner

We had a long day of sight seeing and we needed some sushi in our bellies! We searched and searched to no avail. Everything was closed 😦

We ended up at a strange International cuisine restaurant that was surprisingly good. My experience with international is typically bad- a restaurant that does many cuisines poorly, but Vamps delivered.

I had a delightfully limy Cuba Libre and the chicken curry with basmati rice. It was rich and spicy with tender pieces of chicken and perfectly cooked and seasoned rice. Adam had the gyro platter. Gyro meat with fries and a sweet and sour cabbage salad- also good.

Escaping the rain

We were enjoying a lovely day of sight seeing when dark clouds started rolling in. We ducked into an ice cream shop just in time! We both enjoyed an affogato- espresso with vanilla ice cream. Mmmm!

The clouds rolled away and we found a wonderful winery along the “Red wine trail”. We enjoyed a few tastes then settle on the Portugieser- a variety I’ve never heard of before, but it was really nice.

We walked to the old town for dinner and a beer tour! We had traditional German fair at a lovely cafe on the river. The ambiance was excellent. The food, eh. I had the herring salad with roasted potatoes. It was ok, nothing special. The mayonnaisey, cream sauce was totally overpowering. Adam had the cold roast beef platter. It was cold and simple, boring. BUT the beer tour was really fun. We chatted-up an English couple and made new friends. Lots of great brews and a fun tour guide!

Lunch with Beethoven

We had lunch at a traditional German restaurant just a couple doors down from Beethoven’s birthplace!

We started with black pudding bruschetta with sautéed apples and onions. It was ok, not what we’d hoped for. Adam had the schnitzel with bacon and an egg on top. It was very good, very heavy but good. I had the pretzel salad- greens with tomatoes, pretzel croutons and ham. The salad was good. Again, heavy and overly dressed, but tasty. We also enjoyed dark beers and espresso… Mmmm!
