Bye bye breakfast

We dropped Dave and Dana at the airport early this morning. We will miss having our travel buddies 😦

After saying our goodbyes, we went back to Bastian’s (voted best breakfast in Dusseldorf), for our morning square. Adam had three eggs on toast with Gouda, bacon, and caramelized onions with a side salad. I had the breakfast platter- Gouda, ham, salami, hard boiled egg, butter, honey, homemade cherry jam, and a delightful, fresh bread basket. We both had cappuccinos. We really enjoyed the fresh, tasty breakfast!

Anfora Turkisches Restaurant

Tonight was Dave and Dana’s last night in Germany 😦 Luckily, we had one of our best meals yet! We went to a lovely Turkish restaurant called Anfora. We were warmly greeted by the friendly staff and delicious spicy aromas!

We started with a bottle of Turkish white wine that tasted similar to a Pinot grigio. It paired beautifully with the fresh, crispy sesame bread, hummus, and grilled vegetables with garlic yogurt- all delicious. We were really excited for our entrees!

For the main course, I had the fish assortment with sautéed vegetables and crispy pan fried potatoes. Wow! The presentation was really beautiful and the techniques were executed perfectly. Perfectly crisp potatoes. Perfectly sautéed vegetables. Best of all, perfectly pan-seared fish with awesome crispy skin and tender flesh. Well done! Adam had the spiced lamb with sautéed vegetables and a fresh arugula salad. The lamb was beautifully plated, spiced, seasoned, and wrapped in a crisp-tender pastry.

After we finished our meals, our wonderfully friendly waiter, Taskin, delivered shots of Yeni Raki- a delicious Turkish liquor that tasted similar to ouzo- sweet, black licorice with a bit of spice. Great digestive!

We couldn’t miss the pistachio-walnut baklava and Turkish black tea. The baklava plating was a work of art. It was delicious and super sweet. Excellent eaten with sips of the slightly bitter Turkish black tea. Ahhh…. So satisfying. Thank you Taskin for a great meal and awesome service!

New experiences…

We love Indian food, but many people are afraid to try it… Not our travel buddies Dave and Dana! They courageously tried and LIKED everything! I love sharing new experiences with friends 🙂

Koblenz was a beautiful city! We took gondolas across the Rhine and up to an old fortress. Gelato is always a must 🙂

Under the German sun…

We toured fabulous Oberwesel with friends then joined Dave’s mom and other friends for dinner. The restaurant was an adorable, 7th generation, family owned restaurant and winery. We sat outside amidst the vineyards, drank cold, sparklingly delicious house-made Rieslings, and enjoyed great conversation! After dinner, the vintner, Wilhelm, offered us a tour of the wine cellar. He approached our table with icy glasses of Riesling and asked if we would join him!?!?? YES! We descended into the cellar where Wilhelm told us about his family’s wine making history and explained the different types of Riesling. He opened another bottle for tasting- it was amazing! We were all raving about how fresh, spicy, and fruity it was. After dinner we were given “party favors”! A red bag with two bottles of our favorite Riesling- a generous gift from Dave’s mom. I’m so grateful for her generosity and our new friends’ hospitality. Thank you for my favorite day in Germany!

Boppard to Bingen

We met friends in Boppard and quickly boarded the historic Goethe- a chipper, old paddle boat- for a fabulous four-hour cruise along the Rhine to Bingen. We met new friends, saw many awesome castles, passed the legendary Lorelei, and relaxed while drinking beers and eating pretzels. Life is so good!
