Breakfast on the road (plus a snack ๐Ÿ˜Š)

We're on our way to Budapest, Hungary!!! I really love this tart yogurt drink. It's surprisingly refreshing and nourishing. A great way to start the day! Leftovers… we still didn't eat even half! The hummus was the best! Cappuccino of course 😊We were soooo hot after waiting at the Serbia-Hungary border for over two hours. Our crummy little car doesn't have A/C if it's not moving, so we were roasting! 😫 Some cold coconut-chocolate ice cream was just the fix!

Beautiful Belgradeย

Adam and Nikola Tesla โšก๏ธโšก๏ธExcellent traditional music ๐ŸŽถ Aperol and sparkling water, beerMidday snack. Pita and Kajmak- basically clotted cream. Mmmm!!!We ordered WAY too much. We had no idea what we were ordering, obviously! The hummus was delicious and a meal into itself. The kebab and shawarma was ok. We are so little. We have plenty for breakfast and lunch tomorrow if we can figure out a way to take it on the road. Sooooo much food for just $15.

Sushi time

It was time. We needed Asian food. Bad. Curry vegetable spring rolls, excellent fresh green salad with sweet sesame dressing, and salmon sashimi with orange segments and black truffle- yes! Ginger passion fruit cocktail- perfect!Banana infused Jamison and some other stuff ๐Ÿ˜œ Really good. Johnny would love it! California roll, spicy tuna roll, sea bass nigiri, and scallop nigiri. Singapore noodles with veggies, Sambal, and egg. Not bad, but not as good as the rest of the meal. Remnants… Cool city. Cool new kicks. Cute kids making some extra cash ๐Ÿ˜Š

Belgrade, Serbiaย

Due to a very long wait at the border crossing, we arrived at our Belgrade Airbnb pretty late this evening. We were tired and hungry. Luckily, our host suggested an excellent traditional Serbian restaurant just a couple blocks away. Just what we needed! Serbian red wine. Very good. Homemade flat bread, Shopska salad, and Ajvar- roasted red pepper spread. All were excellent. Odd “cracklin’s”. They were served cold and they were quite flavorless. Delicious homemade sausage. It tasted like really good Kielbasa made a baby with German Landjager then got grilled. So good!serbian apricot brandy, “for digestion ” as our waitress mentioned. It was very good. And did in fact aide in digesting all the goodness. Finally, the house special cake- something like a carrot cake with almonds, coconut, cherries, and a wonderful vanilla cream frosting. Sweet but not too sweet. Excellent. All for about $35 including tip.

Bad road food

We’re on our way to Belgrade, Serbia! We stopped at a gas station/restaurant along the way. We knew it would be good, but we were hungry and there were few options ๐Ÿ˜žAt least the cappuccino was decent. I had the club sandwich. The tomatoes were the best thing on the plate. ๐Ÿ™„Adam had the Cevapincici plate. He described the texture of the Cevapi as “foamy”. Bleck! ๐Ÿ˜

Pub Crawl Tour

It was late and we were bored. We read about a really fun pub crawl tour that was super affordable, just $10 each including drinks at each stop, and a great way to meet people. So…Super cool hidden bar. We had a really fun night! So glad we did the tour!Amazing street kabep! Sooooo good! Curried chicken wrapped in chewy Pita with yogurt, hot sauce, cabbage, tomato, onion, and cucumber. Seriously. So. Good. Just $2 for 2. Unreal.

Sofia tour and lunch

Our wonderful tour guide, Stanislav ๐Ÿ˜ŠOne of the oldest buildings in the world (according to our tour guide). Excellent Shopska salad! One of my favorite dishes of the entire trip- Bulgarian cold yogurt soup with cucumber, doll, and toasted walnuts. It was perfect. The addition of the walnuts pushed it over the top. Amazing! Hummus three ways- beet, pea, traditional. We both preferred the traditional, but the other two were a refreshing take on a classic. Grilled pork chops marinated in curry with spring potatoes, tomatoes, and spinach. All delicious! Made in Home is considered one of Sofia’s best restaurants. Including tip, three beers, and two house made plum brandy our bill was about $35. Cute Place ๐Ÿ˜Š
