Oslo city hall and fabulous lunch!

Oslo city hall was really interesting. It was completed in 1950, but it is surprisingly ornate considering the common architecture of the time. Each year on December 10th, the Nobel Peace prize galla is held in the beautifulain hall.

After some site seeing, we went to a Michelin Guide recommended restaurant- Onda, a seafood focused restaurant with great views of the Oslo fjord.

We started with the wild Norwegian salmon and scallop sashimi served with seaweed salad, caviar, and ponzu dipping sauce. It was so fresh! The fish was sweet and tender and served at the perfect temperature. Then we had the pan seared catfish over seasonal vegetables in a buttery wine sauce. Their catfish is very different than ours, it’s similar in flavor and texture to Florida Grouper. Yum!

Vigelandsparken

We took the train to beautiful Vigelandsparken! It’s a park just outside Oslo filled with sculptures by Gustav Vigeland. What a beautiful place!!!

We stopped at a cute cafe in the park and had beers with our picnic lunch. We had roast beef, ham, cheese, arugula, onion, mayo and mustard sandwiches with chips and grapes. We brought chocolate but I don’t think anyone ate it. The beer was excellent! The best I’ve had all summer. It was similar to Sierra Navada Pale Ale- one of my all-time faves!

Shrimp all day!!!

After picking Gary and Aimee up at the airport, we went grocery shopping. The cute, helpful guy at the fish counter highly recommended the fresh, Norwegian shrimp. He told me to be truly Norwegian we should eat them cold, outside in the sun, with mayo, bread, and beer. Done. You don’t have to tell me twice😉

Norwegian breakfast

We got up early to head back to the airport to pick up Gary and Aimee😃Adam and I shared a yummy shrimp and garlic aioli baguette and a cappuccino. Norway is expensive!!! It was almost $17 for our shared breakfast. No worries, our new exchange home has an awesome kitchen!!! 😊
